Women Empowerment through Self Help Groups
SJAS has promoted fifteen Self Help Groups in the rural areas of Vasai block. Every month the promoters conduct SHG meetings for the members.
Knowledge : In the regular group meetings, we impart knowledge on leadership, negotiation skills, Gender sensitization, NREGA, Panchayatiraj, RTE, Government health systems, role of women in society, politics, Government Programmes and schemes for tribals, etc. to increase their knowldge.
Income generation : Achievement motivation inputs, entrepreneurship development , book keeping and accountancy and establishing bank linkages, etc ; trainings provided to the members in the group meetings to start self employment and income generation activitaties to increase their income.

SHGs have opened accounts in The Thane District Central Co-op. Bank ltd.
Vasai Road and they deposit their savings in the banks.
Few of them have taken loans and started self employment activities.
SJAS has provided guidance to them in this regard during the SHG meetings.
Besides the above, we promoted few more new groups in this area.
We provided formation inputs to these new groups.
SHG concept, Rules and regulations, roles and responsibilities of the members and representatives in the group,
how to conduct SHG meetings, functions of SHG, Vision building, setting goals and objectives etc.
were the inputs provided to the news SHGs as part of the formation.
